Hidden Treasure at Forest Hill

Written by Alisha Ortega, Staff Writer

D-20:  Not many people are aware of or know what D-20 is, most of the schools population tend to focus on the aspects like sports and other more active events. D-20 does not really fall under any of these categories. But in reality, D-20 consists of the same ideas of a team: consisting of 20 members as the title implies, it is the Dimiension 20 choral group. “Top Dogs” of the singing kind here at Forest Hill. For that reason, D-20 is like a hidden treasure at Forest Hill.

D-20 is an ensemble that performs at many and different events year around throughout Florida. The dedicated students that frame this troupe are 20 of the most hardworking and passionate-of-their craft 10th through 12th graders. Their choral director, Mrs.Phillips, is a master with music and song. She is considered to be a gratefully recieved gift by her students and staff. Very little are familar with the commitment the D-20 members, the choral director, volunteers, and parents of students in D-20, put into their events. The long rehearsals and droning practices would seem pointless to others but entirely necessary to these people. They practice for numerous of days when upcoming performance is looming.

Many of their performances are during the winter holidays. At time when Jovious celebration and Holiday cheer are best displayed by singing the classics and snow days that are nonexistent in Florida. In fact, this December, D-20 participated in a Disney production located in the center of Epcot called “The Disney Candlelight Processional.”

To gain further knowledge into the well-known D-20 group, I asked Ivette Polanco, a D-20 member,  her what she thinks about D-20.”They all love to sing and getting up there and perfom,” Polanco said.  She said they are more than just chorus team; they consider themselves like a family.  When you’re spending numerous hours together, you can’t help but care for one another as a whole; as if like a second family.
