What’s the problem here?
Written by Xaimara Rosario, Staff Writer
We as students are equip with the knowledge and tools to be successful. Well at least that’s what the faculty states. Yes they might fill our heads with knowledge. Yes they might equip us with the right tools. How can we take that advantage if we are not provided with a suitable learning environment?
We as human beings learn to adapt to the environment we are put in. What if the the environment is not reasonable for the subject of learning?
Take this for example, my English class is in the shop class room. I ask myself like many of my fellow classmates do, “Why is this our classroom?” First of all the tables are scattered about. The teacher has to constantly walk around a desk to get to the board and the students sit at tables for four. We sit at such close proximity of one another that when during a test the teacher has to constantly monitor every student so that she can make sure we aren’t looking at another persons paper.
Due to the fact that they are easily distracted in the room, literally half of the class is spent on listening to the teacher scream at students. Every time I have the class the teacher states, “I hate this classroom, I have to talk loud so that everyone can hear me.”
How are we suppose to do are best with our academics, if we can not have a reasonable learning environment? Maybe the problem isn’t the students. Maybe the problem is the learning environment. Ever thought of that?
